Morning glory
This month,
Stephen set out to create the consummate
breakfast room—casual and bright, full of
sunshine, with just a touch of sophisticated
country style.
“I started this makeover by asking
myself, ‘What do I want to feel like when I
go into a breakfast room?' "Stephen says.
He gave the room a subtle farmhouse look
by painting the walls cheerful yellow and
covering the bottom half of the wall with
white beaded-board panels.
Stephen traded the formal, rectangular
table for a smaller, conversation-friendly
round one and added distressed dining
chairs and a matching bench. Woven roller
shades cover the windows.
IN ANOTHER LIGHT
Stephen replaced the
fussy chandelier with
this sleeker, vintage-
inspired pendant light.
“I have this pendant in
my own breakfast
room,” Stephen says.

MIXED SEATING
The contrast between
the natural wood table
and distressed white
chairs brings a soft,
eclectic feel to the
nook. Drop-leaf table

LIKE BUTTER
Stephen wanted the
soft yellow wall color
to evoke relaxed
mornings in the
country and also
enhance the natural
light in the room.
STEPHEN’S NO-FAIL COLOR SCHEME
“When I think of great morning light, I
think of yellow,” Stephen says of his paint
color choice. A blue-and-white stripe rug
completes this color power trio. Paint,
